Singing in Spanish

Tonight, as we got the kids ready for bed, they were being rambunctious. In an attempt to get them to settle down, I said "Why don't we sing to Baby Aaron?". The girls loved this idea. Among other amusing renditions of popular childrens songs, this gem stood out.

Lizzie: *finishes singling Twinkle Twinkle* Mommy, can I sing it in Spanish?
Me: Sure, go ahead.
Lizzie: *in English* Lullaby, and goodnight...
Me: *choking back laughter* That's very nice Spanish.
Eric: *cracking up*

Bye-bye poopie

Today, Yumyum informed me that she had gone poop in her diaper. I changed her and she accompanied me to the bathroom to dump the poop in the toilet. As I flushed, she leaned over the toilet, watching intently, and we had the following conversation.

Yumyum: Bye-bye poopie! *waves* Mommy, where poopie go?
Me: Did it go on vacation?
Yumyum: No, poopie went in the tunnel. Poopie went beep-beep in the tunnel!

As a note of explanation, Monterey has a tunnel that we drive through regularly, and we always honk the horn when we go through. This is known as "Beep-beep tunnel".

Along the same lines, Yumyum always says "Byebye poopie!" any time the toilet is flushed, to include very loudly saying "Byebye poopie!" when I flush after peeing in a public restroom. Most recently, I heard several other people in the restroom at Target trying very hard not to burst out laughing.

Today's moments of hilarity brought to you courtesy of Lizzie.

Lizzie: Mommy, Yumyum hit me!
Me: Why did she hit you?
Lizzie: She hit me with the book.
Me: Why did she hit you with the book? What happened?
Lizzie: She hit me with the book because I tried to take it away from her.
Me: *stares at Lizzie*
Lizzie: Um.... *hurries off*

Earlier, when I was reading Dr. Seuss' ABC's to Yumyum and Lizzie, Lizzie informed me that "Zebra starts with zebra puppy polka dot".

Mickey and the Beanstalk, Dale version

From the desk of Daddy:

The kids love watching Mickey and the Beanstalk. Cue following conversation:
Lizzie: Daddy, you're tall, so you are the Beanstalk.
Me: Well, thank you. Okay, I am the Beanstalk.
Yumyum: I'm the duck! I'm Donald!
Lizzie: That's right Yumyum, you're Donald Duck, and I'm Mickey.
Yumyum: Who's Mommy?
Lizzie: Hmmmm... Mommy's Goofy!

Don't eat the castle

"No! I'm trying to build a castle! Build the castle, don't eat the castle."

It was simultaneously adorable, precious, and absolutely hilarious. Much like Patrick and the infamous "Bless Steve, bless Steve, and bless Steve.".

Cotton Balls?

From the desk of Daddy:

So Elizabeth, my 2 year old, came up to me with a bag of cotton balls asking "snack?" I told her those were not snacks, and it would not be yummy. Silly me, I thought that would be the end of it. Instead, I turn around again and find Lizzy managed to not only recover the bag, but got into it and tried to eat one. Her response was to spit it out and sadly say "yucky."

Just another day in paradise

So the other day, this is how it went. Lizzie insisted on wearing her frog footie pajamas for the third day in a row. I'm not talking just wearing at bedtime, I'm talking about wearing them all. day. long. Yeah, she loves those pajamas. In the meantime, YumYum had figured out that the toy bar on the walker makes a perfect teether, both in height, shape, and materials, and was happily nomming away. Bagheera was glaring at the world from on top of a tv, Mojito was curled up snuggling with a huge petticoat, Callista was taking a nap in the baby bouncy seat, and Logan was cuddling with my boots. Admittedly, cuddling with the boots was better than earlier when I caught him snuggling with the toaster (on the counter in the kitchen by the stove). I wish I could have gotten a picture.

Conversation yesterday evening with the hubs (Him), me (Me), and Lizzie-bear (Lizzie).
Me: Did she eat lunch?
Him: Yup, we ate a good big lunch.

Me: What did you eat for lunch?
Him: chips.

Me: chips??
Him: oh yeah, applesauce!
Me: Chips and applesauce?
Him: yeah!
Me: that's not lunch!

Him: uh....
Me: Lizzie-bear, are you hungry?

What does Tom say?

This morning, I had the following conversation with Lizzie-bear.

Me: What does the puppy say?
Her: Woof woof
Me: What does the kitty say?
Her: Meow
Me: What does the lion say?
Her: Rawr
Me: What does Tom say?
Her: Bebe.....

Here's why this is wildly amusing. Our friend Tom is helpless when it comes to anything having to do with the kitchen. The joke (at least, I think it's a joke) is that he's not allowed to make a sandwich without supervision. Anytime our group of friends is over at his house, asking a difficult question like "Hey Tom, how do you set the timer for the oven?" results in him yelling "Bebe..." and asking his wife. And so, Lizzie-bear knows that what Tom says - in the same fashion that she knows the rooster says "cock-a-doodle-doo" - is "Bebe".

Our evening...

We had an interesting evening. Elizabeth wouldn't eat anything for supper but oatmeal (she had 2 large bowls), Miriam wanted to eat at the same time. So there I am, sitting on my boppy b/c my nether regions hurt, holding Miri in my left arm nursing her and helping Lizzie-bear eat with my right hand. Then Jamie came over and started eating the cheerios Lizzie threw on the floor and licking Lizzie's feet, Mojito and Logan started harassing Calista and then Mojito went on to wrestling with a scratching post, and Bagheera sat on top of a bar stool watching the madness and giving everyone a combination of the side-eye and a disdainful "You are all beneath me" stare in the most cat-like fashion.

Eventually Lizzie finished her oatmeal and started playing in the living room while I finished eating (Miri was in the moby wrap by this time). The following conversation ensued:

Lizzie: Book. *hands me a phone book*
Me: Yes, that's a phone book.
Lizzie: Read! *opens the phone book*
Me: Okay. Once upon a-
Lizzie: *points at a car advertisement* Oatmeal. The end. *wanders off to play with pots and pans*

My kids crack me up.

Of baby blankets, chicken strips, and doggie kisses

We went to visit my parents this weekend and on our way back home today, it was kind of interesting. Elizabeth was sitting in her car seat on the right side, Miriam was in her car seat (rear facing of course) in the middle, and Jamie (the dog) was sitting on the seat on the left. All three were in the back. I looked back at one point and realized that Elizabeth had stolen Miriam's blanket. Then I looked at the other side and realized that Jamie was giving Miriam kisses. Then I looked back again and realized that Elizabeth had started sharing her chicken strips with Jamie with Miriam stuck in the middle between them. I took the next exit I saw and pulled off into the parking lot of the gas station/truck stop to give Miriam her blanket back and resituate Jamie.
